When winter comes around and it starts to get cold here in Michigan we participate in the South Oakland Warming Center. For one week every winter we move all the chairs and pews out of our sanctuary and invite our homeless guests into our home to receive love: a hot meal, safe place to sleep and plenty of smiles.
If you would like to help with this mission there are many ways to get involved: Preparing and serving meals (dinner and breakfast), welcoming our guests, serving on our bedding, security and clothing closet teams, cleaning the building before, during and after the shelter, donations of food, clothing, supplies, or finances, and many more opportunities. Our church is involved in a mission partnership to Ethiopia. We are working alongside six other churches in the U.S., Scandinavia, and South Africa, along with our friends in Ethiopia, to see God’s Kingdom come and initiate an indigenous Vineyard movement. Partnership teams travel there several times a year and there are a wide variety of service opportunities.
If you would like to help with this mission there are many ways to get involved: food donations of any kind (including personal need items), cash donations to purchase food at dramatically discounted prices from Gleaners, serving our guests on distribution day, picking up donations from our regular donors, as well as stocking, truck deliveries, and many more opportunities.
